Kent Newspapers

Kent NewspaperA selection of abstracts from Kent newspapers are offered on this website. I like newspapers as they often offer insights into our ancestors lives that dusty records can’t. Mind you sometimes they can tell us things about our family that we would prefer not to know !!

The British Newspaper Archive

clip_image002Looks like we are not far away from the launch of The British Newspaper Archive website which is a joint venture between The British Library and Brightsolid who are the Findmypast & Scotland’s People parent company

The website is live, but there is no access to content, but that is due before the end of this year. Even though there aren’t any newspapers to read it is a good opportunity to play around with the website and read the information that is there.

British Library Video

clip_image002Came across this online video about the digitising programme at the British Library. During the video it says that the Newspaper Archive will be going online in the Autumn.

Now I know that some of the newspapers are already online, but this seems to me to be referring to the FindMyPast project. So many exciting projects going on in the Genealogy World that it’s hard to keep up with it all. So much to look at and so little time !

Aussie Newspapers online

clip_image002Many of us will have ancestors who ventured or were sent to Australia. A great resource apart from the usual births, marriages & deaths registers etc. is newspapers. The early newspapers recorded all the local gossip as well as national and international news so it is always worthwhile seeing if your family feature in them.

The National Library of Australia has scanned thousands of the old newspapers in their car and put them online and what’s more access is free. Great Smile
