Hello, I wonder if you could offer advice to me. I am trying to trace my grandfathers birth registration record.
The issue I have is that after searching birth Marriages and deaths and census records I can find no birth record whatsoever.
The person in question is one George Henry Shakeshaft, born 13.02,1886 -1888. We have discovered him on the 1911 and 1901 census, in west Derby Liverpool, however when we go back to 1891 census he appears to have the surname Bayliss and living as a boarder with his brother william with a Lady named Charlotte, the lady later marrys and becomes Charlotte Shakeshaft and the boarder Georges relationship changes to her son. We are completely confused by this, we have assumed that George Henry was possibly a nephew taken in with a younger brother William after a bereavement in the family of Charlotte and she was possibly their aunt. The problem we have encountered is that we cannot find a George Henry Bayliss or a William Bayliss on any birth records in england. The only George Bayliss we found born in Upton on severn 1888, died 11 months later. To make the matter even more confusing there is no birth record for a Charlotte Bayliss either.We have found a marriage recors for charlotte bayliss to a charles shakeshaft and the lady also later marrys a Joseph Herbert Mckinney, but as to any birth records we can find nothing at all.
We have copies of George Henry Shakeshafts Marriage certificate and Death certificate but his birth record is a mystery. We also know that Charlotte Bayliss’s fathers name was John, allegedly they were all from Liverpool bt we have searched records from every region in an attempt to discover a George Henry with a brother William with birth years 1888 and 1890 respectively, but cannot find a single record, even when the serch is expanded to plus or minus 5 years of the dates there are no records. Please can you advise us how and where we can search furtherr
