Kent burial transcripts online

FindMyPast has added burial transcripts for Kent to their parish records collection. This time the parishes are Northfleet, Dartford & Gravesend and the time period is 1788 – 1983, all three parishes are quite big places so this addition comprised more than 48,000 records.

These transcripts were compiled by members of the Kent Family History Society and are made available in association with the Federation of Family History Societies. A great addition to the Kent Collection.

I have just transcribed the 1740 Will of Daniel Dockin, Mariner of Milton next Gravesend. In it he refers to “the estate that is at Cliff or Clift.” I have been unable to discover where this might have been. Are you able to give me any clues please?
    With thanks,
    Margaret Hassall.

    • Hi Margarret,
My Phillimore’s Atlas & Index of Parish registers show that their is a parish called Cliffe in North Kent. If you put Cliffe Kent into Google maps you’ll see where it is. It is about 10 miles from Gravesend along present day roads, but closer across what would have been fields in 1740.
I think the Medway parishes are online at might be worth checking the Cliffe registers to see if the Dockin family came from there.
      Hope this helps.
