FINDMYPAST.CO.UK MAKES DEATH RECORDS EASIER TO SEARCH

Press release from Find My Past

Leading UK family history website www.findmypast.co.uk has today launched a quicker way to find the deaths of your ancestors, completing a two-year project to make the birth, marriage and death records of England and Wales easier to use. Over 1,000 people have worked on this project, rescanning 170 years of records and transcribing the quarter of a billion names they contain.

This final instalment means that over 85 million death records can now be searched with as little as a surname. This will return a list of individual names, so you’ll no longer need to search through pages of results to spot your ancestor. Finding a death record will take a fraction of the time that it used to.

For the first time ever, you can now search for your ancestors in the following records all at once:

· England & Wales deaths 1837-2006

· British nationals died overseas 1818-2005

· British nationals armed forces deaths 1796-2005

· British nationals died at sea 1854-1890

Findmypast.co.uk is the only place you can search these records in one go. So if you’ve tried without success to find your ancestor’s death record elsewhere, try again using our powerful new search.

  3. Malcolm Ferris says:

Looking for details of birth, marriage and death of my paternal grandparents, plus their ancestors.
    Paternal grandfather: Francis Ferris
    Paternal grandmother: Mary Ellen Howard
The information I have is as follows:
Francis dob 1881 Rochdale; dod 1942(?)Rochdale.
Married Mary Ellen 1904 at St Edmonds, Falinge, Rochdale.
They lived at 58 Spotland & Norden, Rochdale.
    Mary Ellen dod 1953(?)
They had 3 children (eldest to youngest): Lily, Frank (my father) and Elsie.
My father, Frank Howard Ferris, married my mother, Gladys Martha Jowett at Blackburn Road Methodist Church, Darwen, on Saturday 2nd October 1937 at 11am.
I would like to know if these details are correct; the dob of Mary Ellen; and details of my paternal grandparents ancestors (parents and grandparents) [There is a possibility they both came over from Ireland, but "Howard" is a very common Lancashire-Yorkshire surname]
Hoping you can be of assistance.
    Regards
    Malcolm
