Irish Parish Registers on Ancestry

Irish CatholicsOn the front page of Ancestry they have an announcement that they now have Roman Catholic parish registers 1742 – 1884 online. At the moment if you click the link it takes you no-where, but I am sure in the next few hours that they will be online. I have noticed this before with Ancestry the announcement goes up followed by the link a few hours later – no doubt different departments!!

Anyway good news for those with Irish ancestry. Go online click the link and when it starts working you never know who you might find!!

Yorkshire Parish Registers now online

Well things are going along at quite a pace with www.Ancestry.co.uk, first Liverpool and then Dorset and now West Yorkshire parish registers are available online. The registers run from 1512 – 1985. Some of the registers are what’s known as clip_image002Dade Registers and they give much more information than usual, sometimes even grandparents names.

Anyone got any Yorkshire ancestors I can adopt?!!!

Free access to army records

clip_image002A good offer from http://www.ancestry.com.au/anzac2011.

Free access to Anzac (Australian & New Zealand) army records. These records are worth searching as many of us will have ancestors who emigrated hoping for a better life than the UK offered them.

LMA & Ancestry

clip_image002Got an email from the FFHS this morning about a meeting that they attended regarding cuts at the LMA. Amongst the information given was news about what Ancestry is releasing next from the LMA. It seems that London wills and Electoral Rolls will go online later this year along with the 1911 census. These releases will be followed by City of London Freedoms and talks are being held with the Livery Companies about digitising their records which are held by the LMA.

So good news, plenty of helpful London additions coming our way. It was interesting to note that the 1911 census will be included in all subscriptions not just the more expensive ones. Findmypast has had a good run with their exclusive offering of the 1911 census and I am sure they paid dearly for that right, but it will be good to see the census more widely available and affordable.

Liverpool Parish Registers Online

clip_image002Wonderful news if you have ancestors who lived in Liverpool. Ancestry.co.uk has just released the following records for Liverpool. Dates vary depending on which record (christening, marriage or burial) you are searching.

Church of England

Christenings, confirmations, marriages & burials 1659 – 20th century

Catholic Church

Christenings, confirmations, marriages & burials 1754 – 1988

These registers from Churches right across the Liverpool area have been scanned and then indexed. I knew that Ancestry were in talks with various Record Offices around the UK, but there has never been any hint as to which ones.

Pity I don’t have anyone from Liverpool. Perhaps Ancestry will do the same deal with the Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire record offices !!! Winking smile

Manchester 1851 Census free index

clip_image002If you have family in Manchester then you will know all about the flood damaged 1851 census and how it was unreadable for years. The Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society (MLFHS) some time ago started a project to transcribe what they could of the census.

It was a long project and during the time it took to complete technology has advanced and recently Ancestry.co.uk have produced the best possible images and indexed them. However it is said there is some difference between the 2 indexes, so it is worthwhile checking them both. The MLFHS index is available for free and the Ancestry one is on their subscription site.
