  • The records comprise digital scans of burial registers, details of graves and maps indicating the locations of many of the graves.
  • Cotswold District Council is a large area serving a region that stretches from Chipping Campden in the north down to Tetbury in the south west and covering towns such as Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton and Stow-on-the-Wold.

1901 Census for Scotland

I don’t usually cover genealogy matters in Scotland (English ones keep me busy enough!!), but I thought I would make an exception today. FindMyPast has just released the 1901 census for the whole of Scotland which means they now offer on their .co.uk site Scottish census 1841 – 1901. This might be handy to know if you have ancestors in England who lived in the counties which border Scotland.

Bodleian Library periodicals online

clip_image002Did you know that the Bodleian Library in Oxford has put some of it’s vast holding of periodicals online. Amongst the offerings are the “Gentleman’s Magazine” 1731 – 1750 and “Notes & Queries” 1849 – 1869.

Both of these publications have plenty to interest the family historian. The Gentleman’s Magazine has an index for each volume (one volume per year) and Notes & Queries also has a yearly index. I think to get the best out of these publications you need to browse through a volume to see how things are laid out and then dive into some research. A very wide range of subjects are covered in each edition including many announcements of births, marriages & deaths.

Take a look.

Parish Mouse

clip_image002

Until now the only time I have come across a parish mouse is when I have been handling original registers and found nibbling around the edges and a certain, distinctive mousey odour !!

However today I have come across the Parish Mouse website where this particular mouse is putting online transcripts from historical books that he/she has collected over the years. What a lovely idea and how generous of the Mouse to share with fellow family historians.

I had a look around the site, but couldn’t find a name for Parish Mouse, does anyone know who it is ?

Cyndi’s List

Picture1In the early days of internet genealogy Cyndi Howell started one of the first websites that consisted of links to other websites of interest to genealogists.

That was 15 years ago now and Cyndi and her list are still going strong, so take a look if you haven’t been there before or renew your acquaintance if you haven’t been there for a while!
