Our friends at Find My Past have added two more Dockland baptism registers to their collection. St Dunstan, Stepney 1668 – 1679 & Christchurch, Spitalfields 1843 – 1875 which total 16,000+ entries.
So if you have ancestors from these parishes during these time periods you are in luck !!

In one of my previous posts I mentioned how hard it was to find out which parishes and for what time period were covered on the Find My Past parish records collection. Being the sort of genealogist who likes to know these things I emailed Find My Past and Liam Kelly promptly replied. Many thanks Liam

but you then have to click the “next” to get to the various pages where the info is. Along the way you will go through pages that have some good descriptions of the records you are looking at. Very useful for those who are new to genealogy or who have gone along not really knowing the ins and outs of parish registers. Well worth a read.

Talking to fellow genealogists I have found that a recurring topic is that it is getting harder to keep up with what is available for a specific county. I thought I might do an occasional posting about what I have found for a particular county. I won’t include the GRO Indexes, Census or other country wide material. Of course the moment I post it online it will be incomplete, but hey it’s better than nothing 
I have to say that trying to find out which parishes are included in the online parish registers on Find My Past is almost impossible !!! Hope someone from FMP reads this and does something about it !!
Bedfordshire Burial Index – 159 parishes, 355,503 entries.
The Bedfordshire Family History Society has CD & fiche of Bedfordshire parish registers and a whole lot more for sale from their website. The county is unique in that all pre 1812 registers have been transcribed.

Bedfordshire Gaol Register 1801 – 1879 online.
65% of the holdings are on their online catalogue. The entries are quite detailed so can be very useful without purchasing a copy of the actual document.

100% coverage on the IGI
According to my Phillimore Atlas & Index there is 100% coverage for the old IGI, whether that is correct for the new family search I can’t say, but I suspect that many of the parishes will have been taken across.

Find My Past has announced that the previously blocked out infirmity column is now available to view. To celebrate this addition they are offering a reduced rate until 31 January 2012. The cost is 10 credits instead of 30 for a viewing of the original document or 5 credits instead of 10 for a transcript.
If you purchase a Full Subscription then you don’t have to pay the above as access to the 1911 census is included.

Don’t usually post about Scottish records (the English ones keep me more than busy!!), but FindMyPast has just released indexed transcripts for the 1871 census for the whole of Scotland.
No scans of the original forms, you would have to go to Scotlands People for those.
However transcripts are better than nothing and as long as you source where you got your information from that is ok by me

In the Who Do You Think You Are magazine there is an article about what the major players are going to tempt the UK family historians with next year. Here is a round up.
Ancestry is saying that next year they will have the complete 1911 census online with "an enhanced user experience" whatever that means! Also will have Lancashire parish registers and at least 4 other counties parish registers (not saying which ones) Plus more major city collections all with original images and indexed. They will add to their wills & probate records and will have more army records.
Deceased Online will put up a further 600+ cemeteries in 2012 and part of this will be at least 35% of London burials and cremations records.
Findmypast will have it’s Crimes, Court & Convicts info online in 2012, but this may be on a sister website, Welsh records and info from Westminster Archives (I can hear my friend Sue cheering from here!!) and more FFHS member societies indexes. Naval records, UK electoral rolls and baps, mars & burs for British in India.
The Genealogist will have more of the 1911 census, more parish register transcripts, more wills, more non-conformist records and POW records.
British Newspapers Online will be adding thousands more pages from the British Library Collection.
So there seems to be plenty to keep us amused in 2011

Find My Past have been at it again !! They have been busy this time in the Cheshire Record office and now can offer online the following records.
This should keep my friend Jill busy for the next few weeks as she has plenty of Cheshire ancestors !!
Wonder which counties Find my past & Ancestry are working in now? If anyone knows what is coming up please they would like to post a comment.

Today, Findmypast.ie launched online for the first time the Irish Prison Registers 1790-1920, one of the greatest untapped resources for those tracing their Irish roots.
The original Prison Registers, held at the National Archives of Ireland, cover all types of custodial institutions, from bridewells, to county prisons, to sanatoriums for alcoholics. They contain over 3.5 million entries, spread over 130,000 pages, with most records giving comprehensive details of the prisoner, including: name, address, place of birth, occupation, religion, education, age, physical description, name and address of next of kin, crime committed, sentence, dates of committal and release/decease.
The registers offer a real insight into 18th-19th century Ireland. They present evidence of a society of rebellion and social confrontation, where rioting and assault of police officers were everyday occurrences, and of rampant poverty and destitution, with the theft of everything from handkerchiefs to turnips.

Find My Past has just put online another collection of parish register transcripts. This time it is Berkshire (hooray a county where I have ancestors!!) They have 730,000+ marriages & burials dating from 1528 up to the 20th century.
